End of semester

What did you learn this semseter? What did I do good as a teacher this semester, what can I improve as a teacher for next semester? Please be honest and you do not have to sign the post if that makes it easier for you to be honest.

  1. This semester I learned, that even though it's hard, trust is a major factor. trust not only in others, but in the equipment and yourself. You can't let fear get in the way otherwise you'll be left behind while the class moves forward learn more challenging activities.

Mr. Hinojosa, I think you have done an amazing job so far. You have brought a class filled with so many different types of people and put them together to work, get along, and even enjoy all the crazy activities we have done. I even enjoy the intense workout days. Yeah, I understand they're hard, but i always feel great after working out so keep it coming!
((I know I'm going to regret saying that later^))
As a teacher you leave little room for improvement, because you have done a fantastic job. The only thing that kind of scared me was when you got angry, but the next day you apologized to the class and that made me happy.

    Thank you♥

  2. Through this semester, I learned that you get out what you put into Outdoor Adventure. It sounds cliched (Blogger apparently doesn't have an accent mark), but I usually don't have the best of attitudes when it comes to gym classes (take two glances at the amount of muscle that I possess, and the reason will become very clear), and that led to me not really enjoying these classes. Outdoor Ed is different, and I've really been putting effort into the class, and enjoying every minute.

Hinny, I've already said my bit about forcing emotional discussion when, in my opinion, we're all in agreement. Other than that, I have no qualms.

    Cheers,
    Patrick

  3. Well, second semester is coming to an end, and it does not feel like I've been with you all for half a year. This class has taught me to be far more accepting to others and has also exposed me to the real challenges that us teenagers are forced to deal with. ... Oh yea and I learned how to tie a water knot! Woooooo! But all sarcasm put aside, repelling was a very fun adventure.

H, since this is my second year with you, I understand how you operate. I have no major complaints and can't wait for next semester. ONE thing that drove me up a wall was when we were in the gymnastics room and you kept us till the bell. "Ain't no body got time for that" I think you know by now that I have a lot of respect for you and the class as a whole.

  4. During this semester I learned how to accept and get along with other people. It was cool to see everyone cheer and talk to one another during class. I also learned how to listen to others from activities like listening to someone talk for a minute and "If you really knew me".
Mr.Hinojosa you've been a great teacher (: I like how this class isn't just about gym (the usual fitness/workout class) but more like how to survive and be healthy in life. I'm excited for 2nd semester. thank you

  5. This semester, I really learned a lot about the way I form relationships and give/receive trust. At the beginning of the year, I was anxious about how things would be because I didn't know anybody in the class. I feel like the group activities we did made me become great friends with a lot of the people. Though it's difficult to put it into words, I feel like I'm beginning to understand what "it" is that defines the class.

With that said, I feel like you are doing an excellent job with guiding the class in bringing us all closer together. The activities throughout first semester were well-timed with our levels of trust. I feel like the "If You Really Knew Me" in particular was a great way to open things up because it gave a true sense of who a person is beyond a few conversations. So overall, keep up the great work Mr. H! I can't wait for an amazing second semester!

  6. So far this year, I have learned about the amazing friendships that can form when everyone is put into a class where they have to put themselves out in the open. I really feel like everyone in seventh hour is part of a family. From this point on in my life, I think being open would provide a lot more opportunities than it would take away.

The only thing I am not a huge fan of are the blog posts. We did them for English last year and I felt the same way. I think that for the most part, students respond only because it is necessary in order to get points when really it should be because they want to. It's also difficult to remember given that no homework is usually assigned in gym. Other than that, Mr. H, you've been awesome instructing this class!

  8. So far this year I learned to trust people. I'm a pretty open person but still. I also learned how to rappel and tie different kinds of knots. In the beginning of the year, I had friends in this class but I didn't know a lot of people. Doing some activities, especially the clock one, I got to know some people I normally wouldn't talk to. I also learned that you have to work together if you want to accomplish something.

The blog posts are kind of annoying. I understand that you want us to talk about the things we do in class, but a lot of people don't do them at all. Everybody is looking forward to the weekend and the last thing we think about is doing homework for gym class. Anyways, you're an awesome teacher and I can't wait until second semester!

  9. I have learned that trust is the key to this class, and the key to developing good relationships with people, especially the people in this class. I also learned how to tie knots and how to rappel down a wall without screaming in fright.
Mr. H., I like the clock thing and the running exercise where you have to talk to the person next to you and run at the same time. I'm a pretty shy person, however these two things have forced me to come out of my shell and actually talk to people, which is good for me. It's made me, personally, a more outgoing person and has made me talk to people I normally wouldn't just go up and talk to. Mr. H., you have been a great teacher this year. It seems like you really understand us and connect with us, and you also have us connect with each other as a team, which is fantastic. That's one of the things I love most about this class. I must agree with my other classmates about the blogs, though. I think it is good for us to talk about the activities we are doing, I really do, but a lot of times, for me at least, it slips my mind as the weekend goes by and the blog becomes more of a chore than what it is meant to be. Other than that, I really enjoy this class!

  10. In this class a lot of people including me have had to do or face something they don't want to. Personally for me I want trust just everyone but in activities we were made to do in this class, we had to trust people we didn't know so well and It went great. I have spoken to so many people I wouldn't usually talk to but everyone's so nice and I also learnt that everyone has a story but it impresses me how some people can still always manage to look and be so happy and positive after everything :)

Hinojosa seriously this class wouldn't be the same without him. He's the rock. If there is any care and warmth in this class it's because of the atmosphere he created:) good job!

  11. The major thing I've learned in this class is trust. To be honest, I have trust issues, and when it comes to my physical safety, in the beginning of the year, I probably would have been more comfortable rappelling myself down the wall. Especially since I only knew a few people coming into the class, I didn't think I'd ever trust anyone else to keep me safe, but through all the activities and team building, I'm much more open to trusting people. I'm actually pretty surprised at how comfortable with rappelling since I have to be pretty dependent on other people to make sure I don't fall.

That being said, you're doing a great job with the class! Even though the activities seemed like they wouldn't really do anything at times, it's probably because of all of that that I can trust the people in the class now! I'm also a lot more open and not as shy in this class as I am in other classes because of the atmosphere you created, and I'm really happy about that because I can be myself. You're doing a great job and I can't wait to see what we do 2nd semester!

  12. By far my favorite gym class,.. ever. My sister keeps complaining that we don't go outside as much when I tell her our class stories but I like it anyway. I love the team building and I seen first hand how that can be an issue if not done properly. Throughout the semester we have had a stand still where someone was on the spot and they couldn't "jump", yet overall I see a huge improvement,
Possibly my only complaint, a small one at that, the process of the repeling learning. The way we learned it was fine, getting a knot and slowly working up to going down the wall. I wish we saw the entire set up before hand so we could get a feel for the steps and the enviorment. In all honesty I would have paid more attention if I knew the dangers involved in repeling, not that I didin't, I did pay attention but knowing the situation before hand would have been nice. A big picture.

  13. The main thing I've learned is trust and that trust is important but takes a lot of time and activities to create. I think you do a very good job bringing the class together and make each other feel more comfortable. I think you can teach the rappelling techniques good. The one thing I didn't like was in the beginning of the year when we would do team building activities you would try to get deep with why things didn't happen which didn't make sense to me because we are just doing an activity.

  14. I've learned a lot this semester. In the beginning I didn't understand why we had to do all the team building and trust activities but now as the year has gone on I realize how important all of those things really are. I think mr H has done a great Job

  15. This semester, I've learned that trust is a big factor in this class and I've learned to trust my classmates. The trust activities were so much fun and I hope we do something like that next semester. In this class, I can be myself and you've created a fun and enjoyable environment.

Mr.H, you are a great teacher! :) Thank you being patient. And sorry for not doing your blog regularly. (:

  16. I've learned a lot this semester! I've learned that trust and communication are key points in any relationship with anyone! I learned that things can be scary at first but if you take your time they can be fun! You've done great this semester communicating with everyone and making sure everyone communicates with each other. You've really made people feel comfortable with their fears. You've done very good at talking and walking us through things, escpecially when I was nervous(which was often) Next semester keep doing what you're doing! Help us through each challenge that comes our way and keep the communication with the whole class going! Thanks for trying your best to relate and understand to students during times when they're scared or just in everyday life! You're a great teacher! (:

Sorry for doing the blog so late....

  17. So far this semester, I've learned a lot. At the beginning of the year, I just thought this would be like any other gym class. I was wrong. This class has taught me a lot about trust. I'm always excited to come to class to see what we are going to do. It's always sad leaving because this class is fun and I don't want it to end. H you've done a great job this semester and I'm sure you'll still do a great job in second semester. Thanks for making gym class fun!!
